um, yeah, got a bit behind the eight ball with my blogging there, what with school going back and the like.

Here we go again though.

day fourteen | the snake handler

this kid can take a simple piece of rope and turn it into a deadly snake that only he knows how to handle. he knows he needs a stick to help him (which is why we have loads of branches ripped off our trees!). I’m not entirely sure what he would do if he encounted a snake in the wild…..possibly shit himself. Or possibly pick it up and move it.

day fifteen | rainy afternoon

while it’s raining there is apparently is no better place to eat your maccas cookies than under the car.

obviously.

day sixteen | rainy days make Raph happy!

Raphael loves rainy days cos it means he gets to go outside and swim in the puddles. I choose to ignore the fact that he always has that goofy smile on his face….and prefer to think that it’s because he loves swimming out in the open air!!!

day 17 | feet

i adore how these 2 often have to be touching each other. mostly it’s pushing, shoving, jumping on each other which always ends in disaster…but sometimes, just sometimes, it can be as simple as having their feet touching.

day seventeen | always with the touching

day eighteen | dancing

this is a pretty good example of the difference between my boys. Max dances (and boy will he dance!). Sam watches. But absolutely refuses to move. his. damn. body. I think he wants to dance, but he’s more of an observer.

So Sam watches. Max moves.

day eighteen | the way they move...or don't move

day nineteen | ice skating

on a stinking hot day in Brisbane, we rugged up with jeans, jumpers, and gloves and went ice skating! I’m so proud of how well all of the kids did – I was a bit concerned after we got on and 5 mins later Max said “this is way harder than I thought it would be mum, I think I want to get off now”….but we perservered…and had a great time!!!!

day nineteen | ice skating

day twenty | the trampoline

*I couldn’t choose between either of these photos, so we have 2 for today.*

We have seriously had the busiest of school holidays….with only maybe one or two days of just staying at home. After the kids both had a friend sleep over last night, and friends over playing all day…we were all a little tired and grumpy this afternoon. Luckily, the quickest fix for a case of the grumps is a big jump on the trampoline, all of us together!!!

day eight | a trip to the movies

we have been to the movies to see every single kids movie these holidays except The Adventures of Tin Tin…and that was mainly because Max wasn’t keen to see it. We talked him into it today (have to get kids away from wii/playstation/xbox somehow!), so off to the movies we went. And unlike my mother who doesn’t think you need food at the movies….we can’t help but pig out on popcorn, lollies, chocolate or whatever else we can sneak in!!!!

day nine | happy 5th birthday maximo

dear max

today you turned 5. FIVE!!! I simply cannot believe it’s been 5 whole years since they first placed you in my arms and I realised that you were not a Rafferty as we had planned on calling you, but you were a Max instead.

You are about to start school…and you are so very ready for it. You have already started to sound out words, so i imagine you will flourish with someone who can actually teach you stuff!

You are funny and entertaining and frustrating and stubborn. You have decided that maybe you want to be an actor. Or a dancer, showing me your moves to prove you can do it. But buddy, you don’t have to prove anything to me – I know very well that once you set your mind on doing something, then you will just do it, and heaven help anyone standing in your way. I have absolute confidence that you will be perfectly successful in whatever you set your mind to in the future.

Things you have asked me over this past year:

- after being told you were born in water, you were wondering how you managed to stay afloat in the ocean – or were we on a boat? I had to laugh at the very thought of giving birth in the middle of the ocean!
- after a discussion about why sometimes farmers kill dingoes (because they kill animals like sheep), you decided it was wrong, and that you don’t even care about sheep, because you are a boy and boys. don’t. knit.
- we spent Sam’s 7th birthday at Australia Zoo, and at the end of the day you declared that it was the worst birthday ever because there were no cake, no balloons and no party games. Oh the joy of thinking that a birthday = a party!
- mum, when I think about Christmas, I feel like there are dinosaurs stomping around in my tummy. Kind of like it’s Christmas in my tummy.
- mum, do you know what? I am a real life superhero cos I remember things all the time like when I remember what you need from the shops. And if bad guys come around around I can say to them “hey, bad guys, did you remember to do your homework?” and they will have to go back inside to do their homework!!!!!!”

Maximo Sven Patrick (with a silent Sven)….I adore you even though you frustrate the hell out of me! You make me laugh, and you make me cry. You are going to have an amazing year, and I can’t wait to celebrate your 6th birthday with you!

Love Mumma xx

day five | the longboard

sam will never admit it (he is way too diplomatic) but this was his favourite christmas present and it’s quite rare that he will even let max on it. so when he does, max takes full advantage. he has no fear. and luckily, as a mum of boys, i’ve learnt to ignore the kind of dangers that might only result in bumps and bruises.

day six | outside and in

an afternoon swim with friends got us out of the house and away from the wii/xbox/playstation (yes, we currently have all 3 in the house!!!) and made sure the kids got to play….both outside and in!

a gorgeous, big, shiny, new fridge gets delivered and the kids (with their friends) are just as excited as I am!!!!

after a week of our family increasing from 2 boys to 4 while my nephews visit ….we are all starting to get on each other’s nerves a bit. doesn’t help that we have been doing things every day and everyone is a bit exhausted. today we needed a home day. but by the end of the day, so we didn’t suffer from cabin fever, we decided to take Will and Rory to the local wetlands for a walk. innocent enough, right?

leave it to boys to find the muddiest part of the wetlands…which i know sounds stupid, but generally this area is just covered in water, and we don’t go near it.

it was quite a sight driving home with 4 boys in their underwear!!!

so let’s just graciously ignore the fact that my last blog post was, well, forever ago. let’s just agree on that right now, k? k.

and let’s skip the excuses (the one where I am breaking in a new computer).

and let’s skip the whole merry christmas, happy new year jazz. i’m sure yours was just as awesome as mine. and i’m sure you are just as busy with a trillion kids on school holidays as i am.

and let’s just skip straight onto the part where i explain how i’m in my 6th year of the January Photo-A-Day Project.

and no, you don’t have to mention that it’s already day 3 and i’m only just putting them up now. i did take them on the proper days, honest.

and let’s agree that it is probably a good idea if i tried to keep a bit more up to date with this blog. and let’s both do our parts with keeping that resolution (me being up to date, and you maybe popping a comment down the bottom there?????).

so, day 1. and we find ourselves house/pet sitting with the added bonus of a pool. which we are going to miss oh so very much.

2012. jumping in with a splash.

day 2. Wildlife Day.

after saving a possum AND a lizard from certain death, it was agreed that this day should be declared Wildlife Day. the lizard was stuck in the creepy crawly in the pool, so was saved and left out to dry and recover. the possum was stuck in a very tight space and unable to get out, so after snapping 2 palings off a fence, and pulling the poor little fella by the tail to get him out….we felt pretty happy with ourselves. and grateful that we are all animal lovers. and even though he may not look it, max even loves the chooks. i swear.

day 3. haircut day.

and finally the day came when both boys begged for short hair. and short hair they got. well, except for the cool, long, front part. which max was totally ok with, once I told him that he would look like justin beiber with it.

along with haircut day, came rice paper roll day. jimmy was ever so patient showing the boys how to make them.

this photo actually is a very good example of how our lives are, really. 9 people squeezed into a small apartment. a few off to the side getting haircuts and colours, others in the kitchen cooking. a billion different conversations, with people coming and going. everyone talking over the top of everyone else, but no one really minding at all. laughs, and fights and teasing and cuddling and even a few dad jokes (from jimmy anyway).

perfection.

wayyyyyyyyy behind in blogging again, but this lovely lady can’t wait to see her images, so I’ve kinda gone out of order!!!

I have such a soft spot for boys with long curly hair (after having 2 of them myself!!!). Nate and Hamish were so scrumptious I considered bringing them both home with me….2 more boys wouldn’t make that much of a difference, right?

i’ve said it before, i’ll say it again…i love when i get clients coming back to me. i adore seeing kids grow up (all without the heartbreak associated with realising how quickly my own kids are growing up!!!). i met this gorgeous family almost 2 years ago…so it was lovely to see them again as well as meet Lachlan, the newest member of the family.

thanks yin and chris for having me back, and kisses for lucas and lachlan

oh how i love when clients return to me…it’s so lovely to see kids grow up without freaking out because those kids are mine and i don’t want them to grow up!!!

rylee was a gorgeous little newborn, but she is now an adorable little toddler with a brand new baby brother, brax.

thanks so much for entrusting me with the very important job of capturing your newborn yet again for you guys – it was an honour!

This little guy was only 2 weeks old and as gorgeous as can be. He slept like a trooper and when awake, he was so patient with the wrapping, unwrapping, dressing, undressing, picking up, putting down. We swear he cried for a whole 5 seconds and that was when we were leaving ( little man didn’t want us to leave I reckon). We think Zachary is pretty awesome and we’re pretty sure his mummy and daddy feel exactly the same way.
